Story
UPDATE DECEMBER 2021:
It's been a challenging year with the pandemic affecting our business, working practices and the health of our staff and loved ones. However, we continue to support the Brain Tumour Charity both corporately and by asking clients to make donations for any pro bono advice they receive or even if they feel results of their cases are worthy of an additional gift.
Our total fundraising now stands in excess of £36,000 and we will continue our support through the next year.
Staff have continued to fundraise with their own chosen initiatives with cake baking, Christmas decoration making and sales amongst other activities.
Andrew has now gone 7 years since his Glioblastoma diagnosis in November 2014 and we continue to feel blessed that we are beating all the odds against this length of survival time.
UPDATE MARCH 2019:
Many thanks to you all for your kind words of support and donations in support of the Charity Challenge Trek Andrew and I undertook this past week to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. Our Just Giving Page is now over £33,000.
It was at times a surreal and extraordinary experience and was as expected a test of physical endurance walking an average 28km each day through desert wilderness in extreme heat then returning to base camp’s rather primitive conditions.
We found the experience challenging in every respect but can say it’s likely to be one of the most memorable things we will ever do in our lives.
ANDREW & JOANNE
The Brain Tumour Charity has been Major Family Law's adopted charity for over 4 years and we continue to support it with a programme of events throughout the year. We've done pretty well so far and are delighted to have raised so much. Many thanks for all of your generosity.
In 2018-19, we've given our fundraising a bigger push than ever to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Members of Major Family Law have organized our 4th annual Rounders Event in September 2018 - a hugely competitive and fun 'knock out' style team game; conducted 2 table top sales; our colleague (and office Mo Farah!), Sam Carter ran the Kielder Marathon in October, 2018 and then Andrew and Joanne undertook a Major Sahara Challenge trekking 100km through the desert in 5 days in February, 2019.
Our own personal journey over the last 4 years has been a difficult trek through the landscape of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Each year 3000 folk are diagnosed in the UK with aggressive brain cancer, commonly known as a glioblastoma. Just 3% survive to 3 years. We therefore feel blessed our family is defeating those odds and we welcome these challenges.
Please support us raising money for this fantastic cause committed to find a cure to the biggest cancer killer to those under 40 which is only recently making progress to get the funding it deserves thanks to Baroness Tessa Jowell and other high profile supporters.
