Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Our wonderful Dad is taking part in Macmillan's Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike on Sunday 5th September 2021. We wanted to take this opportunity to also fundraise for Melanoma UK as we have now hit our target for Macmillan. Melanoma UK have supported Dad since his diagnosis and we couldn't be more grateful for the work they do, they're a charity very close to Dad's heart.

Dad has secondary stage 4 Melanoma, his Primary Melanoma from 2008 returned in 2020 in the form of multiple brain tumours. Dad successfully had surgery to remove a 3cm tumour and has since completed three cycles of Immunotherapy. Sadly, the Immunotherapy caused Pneumonitis which has impacted his breathing. Further tumours have now impacted his Adrenal Gland causing Addison's Disease meaning that he will have to remain on steroids for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, the long term use of steroids has also caused Type 2 Diabetes. Due to these various issues, Dad has lost some of his strength and stamina and suffers with dizziness daily. He's started walking and setting himself targets in an attempt to reverse the symptoms he's suffering with. Dad will be taking part in the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike as it gives him the opportunity to test his progress whilst raising money for his two favourite charities.

Our Dad's positivity and bravery never fails to amaze us, we are so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing Dad in our lives. He's our whole world, the most wonderful Dad and Grandfather too!

Dad - we love you so much and we are so proud of you!

About the charity

Melanoma UK was set up in 2007 in memory of Jon Herron. We support patients and families affected by melanoma (skin cancer) and funds raised help to provide that support. We are funding much needed melanoma nurses along with help in vital research. Melanoma is a cruel disease, still without a cure.
