Story
Since late 2016, I've run the Magic Bracket - a single-elimination contest for all 16,343 Magic cards that existed at that time. Now that we've reached the Top 8, I have been thinking about money - and about what this fun project might be beyond just a community voting exercise.
Over the two years of the project, I've spent about an hour a day, every day, creating brackets, posting results, calculating stats, and building a community. I've also paid up my SurveyMonkey subscription, and commissioned some professional graphic design for the Top 128 and Top 8 brackets.
Now, I've never had a Patreon or anything - because I am lucky enough that my work means I can afford these things. But I have thought about it, and while I don't need the money myself, if you have enjoyed voting in the Bracket and seeing the results over the past two years, and you think that's worth a little money, I'm asking you to instead contribute to the Samaritans through this fundraiser.
The Samaritans are a non-judgmental listening service for people who are lonely, or in crisis, or who are considering taking their own lives. They are an amazing service and I'm proud to have been involved with them in the past and I'm not ashamed to say that I've made use of their services when I needed them, too. I'd be very thankful for whatever you contribute, or even if you can't contribute yourself but just help spread the message. Thank you for your support.
