I'm walking the Ridgeway to raise funds for Maeve, a wonderful four year old with Cerebral Palsy, who wants to walk.
I've been looking for an excuse to walk the Ridgeway for a while now and fundraising for Maeve is a perfect excuse. She is a joy to be around and tells the best jokes of any four year old I know. Maeve is the daughter of a lovely couple who are close friends of mine, and the sister of my son's special school friend; it's been a delight to be there to witness Maeve make massive progress already. If walking the 87 miles of the Ridgeway gets Maeve a few steps closer to fulfilling her hope of walking, it will be an honour to complete for Maeve and her family.
There is an operation called selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) that could give Maeve the best chance to walk on her own. The procedure is not
currently available on the NHS and, combined with the required physio as Maeve re-learns how to move after the surgery, it will cost a lot of money. By asking you to sponsor me to walk the Ridgeway you will be contributing to the overall fund (Maeve's Magical Journey) which aims to raise £45,000 to fund this surgery and physio.
I plan to walk the Ridgeway over seven days in April and May starting on Monday 2nd April and finishing on Monday 7th May. (6 weeks) Each walk will be approximately 12 miles. Accompanying me on my walks will be Joni, my dog, but I hope to be joined by many friends and family too.
So could you please donate generously and I hope to see you on a walk soon!
