What better way to celebrate my 50th birthday in October than running the London Marathon for Macmillan?
I don’t want loads of presents or a big party, what I really want is to ideally raise £5000 (£100 for each year) for this great charity.
I’ve always wanted to run the Marathon and I’m excited to be doing it for a cancer charity who have always been there for me.
I’m a cancer nurse and I am constantly amazed by the work of Macmillan and the way they support my patients.
Whether it’s giving information about cancer and it’s treatment, offering benefits advice, giving emotional support, providing an online community or helping to fund facilities, Macmillan are there every step of the way.
Macmillan also support doctors and nurses, providing education, advice and information so that we can support our patients even more.
On a personal level, I have lost friends and family to cancer and have always had the support of Macmillan along the way. This is my way of thanking them, in particular for being there when my Mum (Sue) was battling a brain tumour. She inspired me to become a cancer nurse and I know she would proud that I’m lacing up my trainers for Macmillan. She lost her fight in 2007, at the age of 54, and this run is for her.....
