So I guess you are wondering what I am doing now? Well I have managed to convince  some of my friends to take on an EPIC challenge – complete the UK three peaks in 24 hours on the 28^th June 2014, while rising some money.

My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year; the diagnosis while difficult to swallow has come with a level of relief, in that we finally understanding what has been happening to him.  Alzheimer’s is a complex and silent disease, affecting not only the individual but the people around them. The Alzheimer Society has been a massive source of continued support for my parents, something which I am truly grateful for. So I have decided to do this and future challenges to raise money for a great charity, so that it can continue to support my family and families like us.  

I came across the poem below at one of the Alzheimer’s Society events I attended with my parents. It was apparently written by a man whose wife had dementia, he had been married to her for 40 years.  It is heart breaking to read, but helps me to understand what my Dad is going through.
