Story
Thank you so much for sponsoring us in our Mad for Madrid challenge. We are confident we will reach our target of raising £2000 for the Martha Trust and that the event overall will exceed £25000!
It was great fun – all the cars were decorated, some elaborately: there was an excellent bee-car, for example, and a Swedish sauna, complete with smoking chimney and internal wooden panelling! There were also hooters which announced our arrival in every town from Dover Docks through Biarritz to destination Madrid. There are a lot of tunnels on the route and not one was passed quietly! We made new friends amongst the other participants and not too many enemies on the roads … we hope! There was only one breakdown (not us!) although all the cars are being broken down as I write this!
Driving a car destined for the scrap-heap amongst a fleet is a rather liberating experience - we increasingly “forgot” to stop before hitting the other cars and towards the end it was quite usual to “park” in a bit of a pile up! Danni, Vicki and I had no radio onboard and so were forced to talk to each other - we found you can play Hangman and noughts and crosses very effectively on the upholstery and dash-board of a Ford Fiesta! The other “joy” was the heating which could not be turned down - increasingly amusing as we went south into sandals country! The car was christened “Mo-mo” on its drive from Amesbury to Dover as, just occasionally, especially on a hill, she struggled to find “mo-mo-mentum”.
So, from Mo-mo, Danni, Vicki, Fiona and all the beneficiaries at the Martha Trust, thank you so much for your generous sponsorship. We are all extremely grateful.
