Story
Thank you for visiting Maddie’s fundraising page.
Madeleine Ivy Peacock died suddenly on the 20th of January 2008. She was only ill for a short period of time, but we now know following an Inquest that the cause of death was from an Influenza A virus infection. Maddie died from a condition called disseminated intravascular coagulation following her bodies reaction to the Influenza A infection.
The care she received at the paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Kings College Hospital, were she spent her final hours, was very impressive and we really believe that the staff treating her cared for Maddie as if she was their own.
We are in close contact with the KingsCollegeHospital fund raising team, and ALL money donated via this site will go directly towards paying for vital equipment for the new PICU which was opened late 2008. http://www.kch.nhs.uk/fundraising/support/sl
We were invited along with other Silver Lining fundraisers to visit the new Thomas Cook Children’s Critical Care Centre (PICU) in its opening week. We were very impressed with the significant improvements made compared with the old unit, including the much more spacious and child friendly environments of the Intensive/High Dependency Care Units, and a large amount of new technology.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: King’s College Hospital Charity will receive your money electronically and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support. To date over £8500 has been raised in Maddie's memory and we thank everyone who has donated.
