Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored me for this amazing charity :)
Helloooo :)
Thanks for visiting my page :) Well, as it says at the top, this is for the Cardiff Half Marathon. I'm raising money for Sands, stillbirth and neonatal death charity.
Sands is an amazing charity. 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth every day in the UK. That's 6500 babies a year! That is the equivalent of 16 jumbo jets crashing *every* year with *no* survivors! This doesn't include the babies that die previously to 24weeks. They help parents and families deal with the grief of losing a baby, including allowing them to talk to others through their forums. They have an amazing memorial garden in Staffs which has just celebrated the 10th anniversary of its opening. October 15th is International Baby Loss Awareness Day. The half marathon is just two days after this.
Sands is a national charity, established by bereaved parents in 1981.
They have 3 core aims which are to:
Support anyone affected by the death of a baby;
To work in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families; and
To promote research and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives
The furthest I've ever run previously to this is 6miles so I'm more than doubling the distance. Training to run 13.1miles is bloody hard for someone who's never done it before (especially when it's raining) but sands is an amazing charity and knowing I'm doing this for them keeps me going. So, please, help me with this challenge and sponsor me.
Oh, and don't forget to get the ambulance ready at the end of the course for me :)
