Story
The Salvation Army was founded in London, England in 1865 with the purpose of ‘advancement of the Christian religion… of education, the relief of poverty, and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole.’ They meet human needs without discrimination and are actively serving in over 131 countries worldwide. No such service is as important today as their efforts in mitigating the disaster and refugee crisis in Ukraine.
While I serve on the North Texas Salvation Army Board and wholly believe in its mission and purpose in our local community, I am pulled today to raise support and awareness for their efforts in this war-torn region of the World.
As many of you know I am both a passionate runner and an avid supporter of the good things nonprofits do for our Community. This year I have the unique privilege of combining two areas of my life that are meaningful to me for a worthy cause. The Salvation Army is providing emergency services to those impacted by the war in Ukraine.
Officers of the Salvation Army are providing food, clothing, blankets, and necessities to those whose homes have been destroyed and have nowhere to go. The Salvation Army in Ukraine reports that officers sleep in shelters alongside the communities they serve to offer support.
Funding raised goes directly to the Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund.
