Story
You'll be surprised to hear I've entered a marathon, but there's a good reason for it! The Air Ambulance (AANI) is based near where we live, and every time they fly over I think of the precious cargo they carry to the hospital just over the hills.
In partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, they provide the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) here in NI. Their pilot, doctor and paramedic team attend some of the most traumatic incidents across our region, providing pre-hospital emergency care to seriously injured or ill patients, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It costs them around £5,500 to operate every day. Their helicopter can reach any location in Northern Ireland in approximately 25 minutes - a response time which makes a huge difference in a time critical situation.
AANI are a charity, relying entirely on support from the public. So if me completing a marathon means they can meet the costs of just one call out, then it's worth it to make a difference to someone (& their family) when they need it most.
Thank you for supporting this amazing service, and for motivating me on this marathon adventure!
I run so they'll fly...
