Story
I started running in February and signed up to the first marathon I could: the little-known Rutland Marathon on the basis that "I always wanted to say I'd done a marathon, lets just sign up and then I can't back out!"
Those who know me will know how far-fetched this all is for me, therefore please celebrate my lack of sense by donating! And if a kid in a tent can get £0.5m, surely I can convince you all to support the modest ambitions of £2k. But there's a better reason to donate...
Last year the family experienced an incomparable loss. Sue Wells was an incredible person, deeply loved and cherished by family and friends. As many will know, navigating the loss of someone so special isn't easy - it feels a time within a time where nothing else matters or exists; the prospect of grief, and its eventual tide, being all-consuming.
In those moments, then, when one becomes aware of losing a loved one, if there is someone there who understands what you are going through, has answers even when there aren't any, they can appear as angels.
Outreach nurses at St. Peter's Hospice visited the home during a global pandemic and lockdown; they eased Sue in her final weeks; and they gave advice, a sympathetic ear, attention and clarity to us all. These angels aren't state-funded; their care and support are entirely funded by public donations and fundraising.
St Peter's Hospice is Bristol's ONLY adult hospice caring for local people with life-limiting illnesses. Through their people and facilities, they improve the quality of life of patients while extending care and support to families and loved ones. All care is provided free of charge, but it costs around £20,000 a day to provide that care, funded mostly by gifts/donations, fundraising and shops.
Over the past 18 months hospices nationally have seen their resources depleted as they continued or expanded care in challenging circumstances, yet community donations and charity shop revenues ceased. They must rebuild, and they really do need out support. Please help in any way you can.
St. Peter's suggested I use the Just Giving platform; donations go directly, safely and securely to the Hospice.
