Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

April the 12th marks 4 years since my accident, Back up were there at a time when everything seemed bleak and I know they were invaluable to me as well as the many others they help on a daily basis.

In 2014 I was involved in a riding accident leading to a burst vertebrae, kidney laceration, nerve damage as well as a number of other injuries. Two surgeries later and in 2016 I was able to start the slow process of rehabilitation, I remember my first gym session at the start of this journey where my trainer had me walking on a treadmill for a few minutes as at the time that was the limit of my endurance. Since then I have gone from 5k park runs to 10k to half marathons and now the ultimate challenge of the marathon!

Running has not only helped with my physical rehabilitation but my mental requirements. I was diagnosed with PTSD after the accident and the energy required to recover from the mental scars was as much if not more than the physical ones. Back up was involved closely at this point for me and listening to others who had been through what I was going through, hearing that there was a light at the end of the tunnel was crucial to my recovery.

I am hoping to give something back to a charity who helps people at all stages of dealing with spinal cord injuries and would be more than grateful for any support you can offer.

I have to thank a number of people for getting me here; my family for supporting me at every step, my sister Ellie and Charlotte who took me on my first park runs and have pushed me to go faster and further ever since. My trainer Sarah who has managed to get my back strong enough to match the crazy ideas of my head. Finally to my fiancé Mike without whom I would certainly not be running the marathon if running at all. I promise I will never make you run over 16 miles again and agree that the journey from Bromley to Teddington is far more comfortable in the car than by foot!
