Story
Due to unforeseen circumstances the charity challenge has been changed to hiking 35km across 7 summits of surrounding hills of Edinburgh on the 28th Oct 2023
Why Dementia UK
Dementia is the umbrella term for progressive disorders that effect the brain. Each type of dementia stops specific areas of the brain working and effects a persons ability to remember, think and speak.
1 in 3 people born in the Uk will be diagnosed with a type of dementia, there is currently no cure.
In 2019 my dad, my hero, was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Thankfully to date my dad is still coping well with this progressive disorder, however, that does not mean that we don’t have to watch him suffer with this horrible diagnoses.
All the money raised will go to research, provide support to patients and there families as they learn to live with this life changing condition.
This challenge like nevis is graded as tough. It's the perfect challenge for those who are of an adventurous spirit (being a safety manager this is not me!) and have taken on a previous trekking challenge and are now looking to push themselves further - this is also not me so I am going to be pushed to the max!
Hiking 35km with 900meter ascent through the hills surrounding Edinburgh will push me to the max, why am I doing this ? my dad lives with the challenge of Dementia every day and experiencing pain for 8 hours is nothing compared to living with this disease.
I appreciate every single contribution - regardless of the amount every penny will go to provide invaluable support for those who are dealing every day with living with dementia.
Thank you so much!
