Story
After many unsuccessful attempts, I am pleased to announce I have a charity place in the London Marathon in October 2022.
My own furry friend, my dog Polly, will be helping me out with my training and keeping me company on the long ruff (see what I did there) road ahead.
As barking mad as it sounds (the dog puns will stop) it has always been a dream of mine to run 26.2 miles in our nation’s capital and with your support, I wont let you down and I will give this journey everything I can.
My beloved mum, Linda, trained puppies for the charity (from 7 weeks till one year) and we were lucky enough to welcome Watson, Illis, Carling and Mungo ( Each guide dog family is given a nominated letter and all the pups are given a name beginning with that same letter e.g. Annie, Alfie, Arthur unless they have been gifted a name) into our family for a short period of time, whilst mum undertook their early training. This involved taking them on all outings including the bus, theatre and shops, teaching them to walk on the left side, stopping at kerbs and to go to the toilet on command. Carling and Mungo both passed the assessment and were paired with owners with sight loss.
Guide Dogs receive no government funding for the guide dog service and therefor rely entirely on donations from the public and business community. Each lifetime partnership, from birth to retirement, costs the charity a staggering £55,000.
Sight loss can be so life changing but so are Guide Dogs. Thank you for your kind donation.
