Story
I love being in the outdoors; Scotland’s hills, lochs and parks have long held a special place in my life and heart. All my life I have also had a real interest in history and sites of special historic interest such as archaeological sites, stately homes and buildings of historic import. Many of the sites I have visited and loved are protected by The National Trust for Scotland.
Not only this, but swathes of Scottish countryside are administered by the trust - including some Munros- and the caretaking of these areas falls t0 the NTS. This includes protected species and habitats - such as ptarmigan, eagles, osprey and even medicinal leeches! I am very grateful that in Scotland we have the right of access to our countryside - whether private land or public - and I am so grateful to the NTS for all the wonderful areas, trails, sites and buildings I have enjoyed thanks to their management and preservation work.
This Kiltwalk is about giving to an organisational charity that all people can benefit from. We all benefit from fresh air in protected sites that are well managed, we all benefit from the social, educational and cultural heritage resources we visit. If you can give I would be most grateful! Throughout Covid many of these sites suffered due to enforced lack of footfall, whilst outdoor sites conversely were handling much more footfall and the need for protection and maintenance increased.
My life has been greatly enriched through National Trust for Scotland and its work, and through my last Kiltwalk of 2024 I would like to give back to some of the sites and areas I have appreciated through my training.
Thank you so much!
