We fund research and provide support to anyone affected by breast cancer.

Story

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 which was a shock, to say the least, and resulted in me undergoing a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal, followed by a course of radiotherapy and preventative medication, which I still take. The fact that I am here today is thanks to the wonderful and skilled people at the NHS and the brilliant support I was lucky to receive from the research and care charity, Breast Care Now. It is those people at Breast Care Now whom I would like to help as I set out to complete two major charity bike rides in 2023.

My son Andy has recently retired from his successful career as a professional cyclist, in which he represented Great Britain, and, although I came to the sport (very!) late, I’ve followed him into the sport. So, in June 2023,  I will ride the 105 miles of the Wolverhampton to Aberdovey Charity Bike Ride, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023. Then, in September-October 2023, I hope to ride a bike ride known as “The Channel to the Med,” a ride staged from Northern France down to Nice on the south coast, which covers 870 miles  over 14 days and climbs the legendary Tour de France mountain, the Ventoux.

I cannot speak highly enough of the help and care I, and thousands of people like me, received from Breast Care Now, especially as a lot of my recovery time was spent during the period of Covid lockdown. They pride themselves on being “the place to turn for anything and everything to do with breast cancer,” including supporting men, and that has certainly been true in my experience.

I feel now that the least I can do is make an effort, however modest it might be, to raise some much-needed cash for Breast Care Now as my own personal thank you for everything they did for me. My target is to raise £1500 enough, hopefully, to help 50 people speak to their specialist free nurse helpline team or to fund 6 days of vital research .

Any donation or contribution you can spare will  go to support a fabulous charity and cause. I have personally paid the cost of taking part in both challenges so all donations will go in full to Breast Cancer Now.
