I decided to write this song as it's something I've been doing a lot of recently and I thought - why not write a Christmas song?! I then thought back to music events I had organised for ParkinsonsUK in the past and really wanted to do something again but I simply didn't have time to take on such a large organising task. So I thought, why not write a song from home share it and see if folk would pay money for charity for me to do so!? Fundraising for ParkinsonsUK is something that my family take part in on a yearly basis but this particular event is rather special for me.
As most of you will know our family suffered the very difficult and sudden loss of my Uncle Tommy Dougan who battled with Parkinsons disease in 2010. Tommy was the live wire of our family. Always pulling crazy stunts winding up all the nieces and nephews and most of all he loved Christmas and Music. He had a complete heart of gold so much love for his family, My Aunt Mags and Cousin Brent. Tommy always encouraged me to do more with my music and get out there and perform. And in all honesty his encouragement and enthusiasm is a huge part of the reason I am doing so much writing and playing in bands just now.
Christmas day is a very difficult time for our family, without Tommy it's an atmosphere we can't quite recapture but I can assure you we give it a damn good try! The song tells the story of how I think we all feel and really makes me treasure the 20 years of Christmas memories I have with my family and Tommy.
I hope you enjoy the song if you get the chance to download it and listen to it. I had great fun putting it together, a good few tears along the way but I know for a fact that if there is anyway I could pay tribute to such a wonderful man, this would be the way he would choose.
Merry Christmas, thanks for reading and if you are able to donate to this cause no matter how little or large the doantion is I am extremely grateful for every single penny x
