Story
Hello! And welcome to my Just Giving page!
I'm running the London Marathon in April 2023 and I'll be doing it in memory of my mum, Jan, who I lost to Motor Neurone Disease in 2017. She would think I was bananas for doing this (what do you mean there isn't a beer stop half way round?!) but I'm sure she'd be proudly cheering me on from the sidelines (never one to keep quiet while watching a sports match, or ever, really) if she were here.
Watching a loved one slip away while MND takes hold is a really devastating experience. It's a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord, meaning messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
There is currently no cure for MND and little that can be done to slow down its progression either. It was heartbreaking to learn there were no treatment options when my mum was diagnosed. More research is desperately needed so that, one day, with luck, future generations will be offered some hope when they are faced with this awful news.
This is my first ever marathon so lugging myself around the whole 26.2 miles will be quite the undertaking, but knowing I'll be raising funds for such a worthy cause will definitely help to power me through those grim winter training runs!
Any contribution you can make would be massively appreciated. I'll even upload some selfies of me looking like a sweaty red cabbage during training if you're lucky.
Thank you! Lyndsey X
