Story
My Nanna had a major stroke 22nd August 2018 and was admitted to Bradford Royal Infirmary Stroke Unit. For the next 6 weeks she was cared for by the amazing staff of the unit until she sadly passed away 29th September 2018.
The staff cared for my Nanna and my family so well during that time and we really can't thank them enough. They played her her favourite music while we were at work and unable to visit. They cut her hair, they kept her comfortable and respected her. They took interest in us and made visiting hours pleasant even on the worst days. No matter how busy they were there was always time for a chat or a hug when we needed it.
Raising money for the Stroke Unit has been ticking over in my mind for a while now. I hope that any money raised can be used to help other families while they and their loved ones need the care of the Stroke Unit.
At the time of her stroke I was training for the Great North Run and she would ring me to tell me that one of her friends at bingo had sponsored me. She never got to watch the run on the TV that day sadly but I know she would have been watching if she could. Running the race again in her memory, raising money for the ward and staff that cared for her just seems like the perfect tribute both to my Nanna and to say thank you to the BRI Stroke Unit from myself and my family.
Nanna always used to say "Where does she get this running from, no one in the family has ever been a runner". Haha this makes us laugh. So this runs for you Nanna!
