Like most first time mums i read all the books, attended the classes and thought I was ready! 12 hours into the job Benjamin wasn't feeding and I was in tears! Breastfeeding was supposed to be natural so why couldn't we do it!

All the midwifes had different solutions to the problem, some good some not so good. After 7 days in hospital we were discharged, still not breastfeeding but expressing milk to feed from a bottle. I felt like a failure and a cow at the same time!

NCT helped with breastfeeding peer supporters and tips on latching! 8 weeks in Benjamin latched! He's still breastfed now and I hope to still be breastfeeding him in March as he approaches his first birthday!!

There is support out there for anyone who wants to breastfeed but there needs to be more! More peer supporters, more training, more mums who have been through it and come out the otherside!
