We raise funds to enhance local NHS care to improve the experience of our patients

Story

A few months ago a group of us decided we would like to do something to raise money for two charities in our local area which both provide excellent care and support for people suffering from serious or terminal illness in the North East. We decided on the Lyke Wake Walk which is a challenging 40 mile walk across the North Yorkshire Moors from Osmotherley to Ravenscar which should be done in less than 24 hours.

Our first charity is the Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland and is in memory of David Priestley who passed away two years ago. For a number of years David worked as a volunteer with the hospice and was very impressed with the great work done there to care and support terminally ill patients. Walkers Jonathan, James and Robert Priestley are David’s sons and Daniel and Matthew Priestley are his grandsons.

The second charity was selected to give thanks for the care received by Norman Gregson while being treated in the MARA unit at Bishop Auckland General Hospital. Sam Gregson, who is also one of the participants, is Norman’s son.

We would like to try and raise equal amounts of money for both charities so if you would like to sponsor us then please use one or other of the links below so that the amounts remain approximately equal. Thanks for your help with this!
