Myalgic Encephalopathy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ME/CFS is a painful and debilitating condition, that has no known cause or cure. It deprives children of an education and social development with their peers. AYME has helped over 6000 members, aged 3 to 26 years since it began and desperately needs your money to continue to support those newly diagnosed to give the best chance of recovery and hopeful future.
I am 15years old, a keen athlete who has battled with a number of health problems since a young age. I was diagnosed with ME in March.
I have suffered many of the symptoms of ME (fatigue, headaches, nausea, joint pain, balance and temperature control problems etc) and it has had a huge negative impact on my life. I have not been able to do athletics since August, have had to drop many of my GCSE subjects and have a very reduced social life.
I try very hard to stay positive and determined to recover
AYME has helped me find lots of information about ME and how best to recover. It has an area for young people to exchange ideas or just chat and keeps me and my family up to date with any new research into ME.
Part of my road to recovery will be very slowly getting back to athletics and I thought I could link this to raising money for AYME who were there for me in my darkest days when I couldn't get out of bed because I felt so ill.
MY EVENT
I will be competing in Shot Putt at the Welsh Athletics Championships in Cardiff on January 30th 2010.
I would like people to either sponsor me for each metre I throw or as a fixed amount.
My PB is 9m 58 but I don't expect to throw anywhere near that due to lack of training and general weakness at the moment
I don't mind how far I throw. Every cm will help raise funds for AYME
