Lydia's Story......
As many of you reading this will know, my family mean everything to me. We are a family that stick together no matter what and this time last year we were dealt the blow of finding out my Uncle Bob who is quite literally ‘the Godfather’ of the family had breast cancer. I suppose you always think it will never happen to us, but when it did, it really hit home. I wanted to be there for my uncle, auntie and cousin every step of the way. My cousin Laura, who I think of more as a sister was one of my main priorities. Every time she was scared, afraid, upset I wanted to be the one to tell her everything would be ok.
After my Uncle had his operation to remove the cancer, he was on the up. That was unfortunately until a few months when he was advised he had cancer of the gullet.
I suppose we adopted a fierce and strong attitude as a family, we'd beaten it once, we could do it again. My Uncle has had 3 sessions of chemotherapy, he faces an operation in January, and 3 more sessions of chemotherapy after that .These past few months have been difficult and upsetting, it’s never easy having to witness anyone you love having to go through all this, and at times you feel nothing but helpless.
The joint story: Julie and Lydia
My best friend Julie suggested the idea of a skydive whilst we are travelling in 2014. I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan. I can’t thank her enough for the support she has provided me these past few months and couldn’t think of anyone better to throw myself out of a plane with!
This skydive is for the James family, they picked this charity and this is all for them. So people can see their story, their bravery, their courage, and their big hearts. They are a family that would do anything for anyone so now it's time for people to do something for them.
Julie and I will end this story now by asking you to give anything you can and thank you with every gratitude we have. Every little helps.
A song my cousin Laura and I hold very dearly to our hearts says it all......
‘If you wanna fight I'll stand right beside you. The day that you fall I'll be right behind you, to pick up the pieces. If you don't believe me, just look into my eyes, because the heart never lies’
