Story
Our lives changed irreparably on 21st February with the passing of our beautiful 23 year old daughter, Amani Liaquat. Only 22months earlier she collapsed at home on her 22nd birthday with her first ever seizure. Days later we discovered she had the most aggressive, cancerous brain tumour, Glioblastoma Multiforme.
As I'm sure everyone can imagine this has been the most horrendous time for our family. Quite quickly after diagnosis Amani began to change beyond recognition. In reality we spent 22 months slowly watching parts of Amani die before our very eyes for 22 months.
Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), as described by her neurosurgeon, is an evil tumour. It's effects slowly strips a person of their appearance, their memory, their mobility and ultimately their dignity. The pain of watching this disease ravage your daughter is something we will never get over.
It is disturbing for us to think that there are thousands of other families are also going through this same journey with brain cancer. This is why we will do all we can to help improve the situation for other brain cancer families.
Treatments for brain cancers in the UK hasn't changed in decades. Current NHS treatments are ineffectual and not curative. Families are forced to raise funds privately to fund private treatments outside of the UK. This needs to change but Government investment into brain cancer research is inadequate. At the current rate of spend it will take 100years to find a cure! But one thing brain cancer patients don't have is time on their hands. so in the absence of Government research grieving families are raising all they to fund brain cancer research in the hope of improving treatment options and outcomes in the UK.
This is why we are organising Luton's Walk of Hope on Sunday 25th September 2022 at Wardown Park along with George Fox's family. George is a local 13yead old boy who also lost his life to GBM in March after a courageous 11month battle.
So we walk in memory of Amani & George. We walk for those still fighting. We walk for all of those we have lost. We walk to raise awareness and money for research. We walk in the hope that other families won't have to go through what we've been through. Ultimately....We Walk For Hope!!!
Please sponsor our efforts if you can.
Fight4Hope has been set up as a Brain Tumour Research Fundraising Group by Amani and her family to help raise as much money as they possibly can to help fund brain cancer research.
