Story
Assalamu Alaykum,
My name is Luthfa Ahmed, a mother of four and a devoted wife who also has a full time job.
I recently ran the Great Birmingham 10k with Penny Appeal and it has motivated me to do more fundraising for the needy. I am now inspired to do the biggest challenge of my entire life; Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, a staggering 19,000 feet! This will challenge my endurance and test my courage but its for a great cause and i am determined to reach my goal.
Since my children had joined up to volunteer with Penny Appeal a few years back and fundraising in various ways it has given me even more of an inspiration to conquer one of the highest mountains in the world.
I find myself being very fortunate to be living in a developed country with access to all the amenities and it made me realise that i have always wanted to do more for the less fortunate.
I am fundraising to build deep water wells in water scarce communities in Gambia. Dirty water is one of the world’s biggest killers, and can trap entire communities in a cycle of poverty. These wells are life-savers in places where the water is deep underground and can't be reached by hand pump wells. The drilling process is slow and difficult – but once the wells are built, they will provide safe water for many years, bringing the gift of life to whole villages for generations to come.
