Story
I am running my fist half marathon to raise much needed funds for an awareness campaign for one of the fastest growing cancers in developed societies, Oesophago - Gastric Cancer.
My dear friend, Wendy, sadly lost her father to this disease last year, following a bravely fought three year battle and together, we are running to raise funds for the Newcastle Research Facility . This facility pioneers research and treatment is launching The "Oesophago–Gastric Cancer Awareness" Week.
This is a recently established campaign to raise awareness of oesophageal cancer which is now the 5th commonest cause of cancer deaths in the UK and is significantly on the increase. Sadly, the symptoms of this cancer often go undetected until far too late.
I hope that this awareness campaign could help to make people identify early symptoms of this extremely aggressive cancer, therefore giving the very best chance of survival.
I know you often get asked to donate to so many worthy causes but please do dig deep - it would mean a lot. Big thanks to my running partner Wendy and her early morning smiles.
