Story
To date the most exotic thing I've ever done is lying on a Portuguese beach, so trekking 70km and camping in the Sahara with no running water or electricity for 5 days will take me a long way out of my comfort zone.
There are so many ways to fundraise ranging from marathon running to skydiving to baking cakes, however this challenge seemed to really appeal to me.
Three weeks after starting work at Arthur Rank I could see the importance in raising money to support the work at the hospice. Every year the hospice needs to raise £2m to fund the In-Patient Unit, Day Therapy, Hospice at Home among many others.
Knowing how important hospice care was to my family in the past it is easy to see how crucial it is to every person who comes into the hospice every day. I don't work directly with patients, but I do see how well they are supported. There's a saying at the hospice 'we help patients to live well, and families to live on', and that sums it all up.
To help finance this challenge I have personally contributed £600 towards the costs enabling more of the funds to go towards the hospice.
As an example to run the In-Patient Unit costs over £4000 every day so every penny donated I am hugely grateful for as it will go such a long way at the hospice.
