Story
I've always struggled with my physical health, but over the last few years have really struggled mentally too. I want to get better. If you can believe in me, then I can too. I need to look after myself, to work on myself.
So over the next 100 or so days, the last of my 30s, I'm going to attempt to cycle, swim and walk over 1000miles. It may not seem a lot per day, but there's not a lot of wiggle room for missing any days! Plus, I've always seen bikes as a mode of transport, functional not fun. And this time last year I couldn't even bend my new knee enough to ride. As for Lycra... ha! Good one. It's pretty daunting, but I'm hoping the miles improve my wellbeing as well as my waistline.
I'm raising money for Mind as the work they do is extraordinary, and I know first hand because I've been on the receiving end recently. Every penny pays for a minute that can save a life.
As we all look forwards with a little more hope in our hearts that the worst of the Covid crisis is behind us, a mental health crisis sadly looms ahead for so so many people. Organisations such as Mind will be the new front line heroes, and will need our support.
So, I'll be tracking my progress on Strava, and whilst for the most part I'll be doing this on my own, for myself, it would be nice to have a little (socially distanced) company for some of the miles. Checking I've not joined the lycra briggade, having a chat to distract from the slog, sharing a view or two. Professional riders need not apply, I'm not in need of a reminder of my pace or lack thereof. Fully amateur. Hit me up if you have a mile or two in the tank and an hour or two spare one day.
