Story
Anyone that knows me will probably know that cancer has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. This awful disease has impacted the lives of so many people and taken away loved ones far too early.
My mum has lived with cancer since her 30s and has beaten it into remission not once, not twice but three times, along with my sister who recently battled bowel cancer and won and is now thankfully in remission too. Cancer is also sadly the reason I never got to meet my father-in-law, Ken, and 2024 marks 20 years since my wife and her family lost him.
I have decided to take part in this event and raise money for this great cause in support of all my friends and family that have been impacted by this terrible disease and to honour Ken’s life and two of the most important women in my life and the sheer strength and resilience they have shown in their own personal battles against cancer.
Watching a loved one go through the gruelling physical and mental strain of a cancer journey, you feel helpless and guilty for not doing more, running this Marathon is just one way I can have a positive impact in the fight against cancer.
Together we can make a difference and with your generous support, we can help great charities such as the Word Cancer Research Fund whose invaluable research focusses on prevention and survival to help people live longer, healthier lives – free from the devastating effects of cancer.
Every day around 1,100 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Over 420 of these cases could have been prevented, that’s a staggering 155,000 people every year. World Cancer Research Fund, are passionate about reducing this number. As part of an international network of charities, they’ve been funding life-saving research, influencing global health policy and informing the public since 1982. While society continues to search for a cure, their prevention and survival work helps people to live longer, healthier, and happier lives – The money i hope raise with your help plays a huge part in keeping this work going.
