Story
Hello you lovely person,
Thank you ever so much for visiting my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 3rd October 2021, I shall be running the London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK, a charity very close to my heart.
My Grandad Don first started showing signs of dementia 15 years ago. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Over the years his memory and his ability to recognise loved ones has diminished. He is going to be 93 years old this year, he’s now living in a care home and has just fought off Covid. I can’t wait to run the marathon for this remarkable man.
I would also love to raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer’s Research UK. They are doing everything in their power to try and eradicate this awful disease.
I’m sure many of you who are reading this will also have relatives and close friends that have been effected by this disease. Some of the statistics surrounding the disease have shocked me, for instance, in 2018 there were 50m people living with dementia in the world and it’s been predicted that this will increase by 204% to 152m in 2050.
In short, the reason I have chosen to run for Alzheimer’s Research UK is to help raise the money to ensure they can carry on funding more vital research, prevent more lovely people like my Grandad from developing dementia and ensure more people receive the best possible support, information and care.
Therefore, I would greatly appreciate any donation large or small to help me reach my fundraising goal and play a part in the fight against dementia.
Thank you!
Luke
