Story
My uncle Mark was a great guy he was always welcoming and supportive to me and my brothers.
When I heard he had been diagnosed with Sarcoma I was shocked. Mark was a healthy fit individual.
His Sarcoma meant he had to have invasive surgery to remove a massive tumour (nicknamed lumpy by Mark). Mark remained positive and had good humour about his Sarcoma. Mark was supported by Sarcoma UK and wanted us to donate to them in gratitude for the help they gave him.
Mark was a very special person he never once said “why me?”, his stoic and cheerful approach to his devastating illness was incredible. His thoughts were always for those he was leaving behind.
Sadly the Sarcoma was too strong and eventually overwhelmed his body. Once he knew it was definitely going to take his life, Mark planned meticulously so that the people left behind would be taken care of and need not stress at his passing.
This year I will undertake three of the hardest cycling events I have done and would like to raise £5,000 in memory of Mark.
The first is the Tuscany trail 1st June 2019, This is a gruelling 320mile gravel ride with 11,000 meters of climbing, I aim to complete as fast as I can.
My second challenge is a 24hour solo mountain bike race in late July. This is my nemesis as at my last attempt my knee gave up at 19hours of racing. I am working hard on making sure it is stronger this time around.
And my last challenge is Zurich to Zurmat September 19th a 180mile race that has 7,000 meters of elevation gain, this starts at 2am with an 18hour time limit. I hope the other two events will leave me strong as this could be the toughest of them all.
Thank you for visiting my page.I’m supporting Sarcoma UK, the only cancer charity in the UK focused on all types of sarcoma. Sarcoma is a cancer of the bone and soft tissue. It is one of the hardest to diagnose, and difficult to treat. We can help change this. By donating to my page, you will fund vital research projects looking for better treatments. Your donation will also raise awareness of the symptoms of sarcoma to help patients get an early diagnosis, and ensure everyone has access to specialist advice.Thank you for your support.
