Story
So why will I try to run 260km and 10500m of vertical in 6 days...?
Some years ago my wife Elly (Psychologist) was working with a charity providing safe houses for victims of modern slavery. In other areas of her work she came across other vulnerable individuals, often young and homeless, who had also fallen victim to manipulative and profit seeking illegal organisations. In my ignorance, I was shocked to hear their stories and deeply saddened that our society often turns a blind eye.
I heard about TRIBE Freedom Foundation at the time of Run for Love 2 and was excited by their campaign and their love of adventure, this resonated with my own values. Unfortunately a chronic injury sidelined me for most of 2019 and I had to defer entry from RFL3. Finally I am going to take part in RFL4, but it has not been straight forward. I caught Covid in January 2020 and suffered with Long Covid for the rest of the year. In 2021 I got Covid again and some of my Long Covid symptoms returned. I have not been able to do any specific training for what is a very challenging event but hope that my base fitness and mental resilience will see me through. Doing the equivalent of a marathon each day for 6 days won't be easy but the daily average of 2000m vertical makes this a pretty serious undertaking. Hopefully this inspires you to give generously to a cause that is not well recognised in the UK but is a very serious issue and the war in Ukraine will have greatly exacerbated.
Thank you! Luke
