"A marathon?', "Are you mad?", "You HATE running!"
Yes - I have hated running as long as I can remember, and the thought of running a marathon was amongst the most foolish ideas I could have thought of - UNTIL someone from the University of Bristol called me 6 years ago asking if I had any interest in entering the lottery for one of the University's 5 charity spots for the London Marathon. I don't know what came over me - I said "Yes!". It may have been a moment of complete insanity - but I prefer to think that it was a moment of realisation; that if ever there was a reason to do something so out of one's comfort zone, that raising money for Cancer Research was that reason. I didn't get the entry way back then, but every year since, the madness has once again overtaken me, and I signed up to see how terrified I would be if I got the nod. After 5 years, I got the call - and yes, "You absolute idiot" went through my head immediately. BUT, I am relishing the thought of running through the streets of London, am quietly getting fit and putting in the miles, and come ~4 hours after the gun goes on 26th April I will hopefully have accomplished a life long nightmare/dream, and in doing so have raised some cash to find a cure for something that every year takes someone I know or the loved one of someone close to me.
Any help you can give towards the University of Bristol's Cancer Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
