In June 2013, a month before his 12th birthday, Luis was diagnosed with an Osteosarcoma (a rare bone cancer) tumour of the fibula in his right leg.
Luis underwent months and months of chemotherapy, surgery and more chemotherapy to no avail. On September 3rd 2014 a few months after he had 1/3 of his left lung removed due to secondary cancer we were told devastating news that Luis’ cancer was now terminal. From that moment on Luis had only one focus and that was to enjoy a family holiday and take his sister Georgia to Disney World, Florida.
Again, things didn’t go to plan.
Luis and his family flew to Florida on Friday 12th of September 2014. On Monday the 15th Luis was suddenly taken ill and was rushed to a local hospital where they discovered two further tumours his brain. After spending the rest of the week in hospital Luis was flown home, he arrived safely home after being discharged from Northampton’s Disney Ward at around noon on Sunday. Luis spent Sunday afternoon and Monday catching up with rugby teammates and Northampton Saints RFC players telling everyone about his wonderful couple of days in Disney!
Tuesday morning saw Luis wake up with a severe headache and by the time he arrived at Disney Ward he was very poorly.
At 1245 on 23rd September 2014 Luis passed away in his sleep surrounded by his family and friends by his side.
