Mermaids has been working to reduce isolation and give support to trans and gender diverse children and their families for 25 years. Over the last 6 years the charity has responded to the increase in demand and visibility by upping the range and volume of services including helpline, email, webchat, local and national meetings and education and advocacy for some of the most vulnerable children and young people. 

I have worked for this wonderful charity for nearly 2 years and see first hand every day the lives it helps and in some cases, saves. 

Fundraising has been hit really hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, including Mermaids, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income.This impacts all sectors of society from children to the elderly as well as the vital work in areas such as palliative care, serious diseases, mental health, housing support, food supplies and countless others that charities support.
