Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
On 24th May 2015 my Nannie Lynn passed away from cancer and this was a very difficult and emotional time in my life and thankfully I was referred to Cancer Focus NI who have a Family Support Service which helps bereaved children to deal with the impact of the loss of a close family member.
Cancer Focus NI where able to send a Support Worker to my house which was good as I could talk things over with someone outside of my own family and they helped me to create a memory box. As well as the one to one support, I was invited to go along to the monthly family support meetings in Belfast. There were a lot of other children attending who were in a similar, if not more difficult, situation.
At the support group there were 6 volunteers who were amazing as they gave up their time to help support others. I felt comfortable going to the group as the adults were encouraged to stay with tea/coffee and buns and the kids went off to other rooms where we got to play games, make craft, we could have one to one support if we needed it and at the end of the night we got pizza.
Cancer treatment can lead to hair loss and when we go to the hairdressers we normally just get our hair trimmed and it goes in the bin but just over 2 years ago I decided that I was going to grow my hair as long as I could and then get it cut on 24th May which was the 5th anniversary of my Nannie Lynn's passing and donate it to the Little Princess Trust.
Unfortunately due to the pandemic I was unable to do that until now, so on 29th July I am going to get 12 inches cut off my hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust who supply free real hair wigs to children and young people up to the age of 24 who have lost their hair going through cancer treatment and other conditions.
While I am donating my hair to one charity, I would love to raise some money for another which is Cancer Focus NI Family Support Service as it continues to help and support others in the future. I really hope to raise £100 for this amazing charity which would enable a bereaved child to get one to one support for 6 weeks. The statistics say that 1 out of every 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime and nobody knows when they may need to use this service.
Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated to help me reach my target.
