Story
I’m jumping out of a plane at 15,000 ft with a 60-second
free fall (tumbling through the air) for charity. I’m raising money and
completing a skydive for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) in July 2022. I am grateful for any donations and support towards this cause; no matter how big or small. Thank you so much in advance!
Meningitis is a life-threatening disease; described as an inflammation of the meninges (membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. It occurs when the fluid surrounding the meninges becomes infected (either by bacteria or a virus). Symptoms of meningitis include a high temperature, cold hands and feet, confusion, vomiting, muscle and joint pain, dislike for bright lights, seizures and a rash that does not disappear under a glass. If not treated quickly, meningitis can become very serious and can cause septicaemia
(blood poisoning); possibly resulting in permanent damage to nerves or the brain. While meningitis can affect anyone, it is most common in babies, young children, teenagers, and young adults. As a result of this, meningitis is one of the major health risks for students in their first year of university.
The Meningitis Research Foundation uses the money raised
through fundraising and donations to help fund research, support people affected by meningitis and increase awareness of this disease. In 2020, a global initiative was put together to defeat meningitis by 2030 – through prevention and epidemic control, action on the diagnosis and treatment of meningitis, support for people affected as well as advocacy and engagement.
