Story
I'm walking 17.5 miles of the DownsLink path with my chaplain colleague Elly, and 6 or 7 amazing residents who come along to chaplaincy sessions. Some of these young people are asylum seekers and have already walked many miles as part of their journey to living in our accommodation.
YMCA DownsLink Group is a charity that works to prevent youth homelessness across Sussex and Surrey. Every night, they/we provide accommodation to more than 750 young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, as well as helping give them the skills they need to create a brighter, independent, future.
By sponsoring me/our team to take part in the YMCA DownsLink Challenge you can make a difference. 75% of the money raised by Team Chaplaincy will go towards chaplaincy work at the projects. Our chaplains (many of whom are volunteers!) are there to listen and support the young people in a non-judgmental way - usually chatting over a weekly shared meal. Young people say chaplaincy makes the projects "feel like home" . £10 buys a meal for 3-4 people, £25 buys a meal for 8-10 people. Thanks for any support you can give.
"Come more often. Thank you...chaplaincy is the best part of the week. Amazing food and company. An oasis in the desert"
