Story
On the 5th July 2018, the brilliant National Health Service turns 70! Research is crucial to shaping the NHS of the future and discovering life-saving treatments. To celebrate the NHS turning 70, I am raising money for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity. In 2016/17 they invested an amazing £343,000 into cutting edge medical research looking at the causes, prevention and treatment of illness.
I thought running 70km for 70 years would be apt, but I couldn’t find a race that distance, so instead I’ve taken the plunge and signed up for Dig Deep Peak Trails 50 in August. This is 80 km (50 miles) long and has about 2700m ascent! The organisers say the route has been chosen because of it's stunning scenery, but the continued hilly nature of the course earmark this race as a tough one to complete. It does sound amazing – but knowing some of the hills in the area it's filling me with some dread! So, I have got a LOT of training to do between now and then!
If you’d like to support me by donating any spare pennies to this great cause, I will be very grateful! Every penny will help me keep focussed during the dreaded hill reps training, and those inevitable moments mid long run when I haven’t eaten anything and just want to sit down and give up! The funds raised for Sheffield Hospitals Charity will be used specifically to support ground-breaking research across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. www.sheffieldhospitalscharity.org.uk
I’ll post updates about my training, so please feel free to
follow my progress on Strava, look for Twitter updates, or now I've figured out how to write it....my blog https://tailsandtrails302433501.wordpress.com/
