Story
Every time I run the Manchester 10k I think of my grandpa who passed away in 2015. It was in 2015 that I first did the run, which I did to raise money for Macmillan. Macmillan were wonderful in supporting my grandpa as he was battling cancer. I ran with his name on me and as I ran I was thinking of him. On the evening of the Sunday that we had run, me and my dad went to visit my grandpa in hospital. I showed him my medal and he said to me 'that's wonderful, you must keep on with this'. He passed away a couple of weeks later. He was somebody who always helped others and I endeavor to continue his legacy and do him proud.
I have chosen to raise money for Mind as I feel that help for mental health issues is still limited and more work needs to be done to understand this field and to give vital help to those suffering with mental health issues. I believe that we can all experience times when our thoughts and feelings are in disarray, and not knowing how to break free from spiraling downwards can increase anxiety, which can then worsen your mental health. Knowing that there is help available and a range of it with high levels of expertise as a foundation could be that lifeline that so many need at various times of their lives.
