Story
ICE Ilfracombe was set up in January 2015 to fund a Christian youth worker at our local secondary academy, although there has been a youth worker there for several years previously due to the incredible generosity of local people. It is great that we can provide a youth worker who is there to really come alongside young people and support them without being part of the academic system. ICE Ilfracombe also help to support the running of the DELTA youth club that runs from the old marlboro club site.
We are doing this walk to help raise funds for ICE, not only to fund the project but also to be able to offer enriching and enabling days to as many students as we can, to be able to support them to reach life in all its fullness (John 10:10) We've put a rather over-confident target of £3250 which would help us to be able to offer up to 100 children a chance to have a day off- site but still learning in a different setting. We've approached different companies for a price - for example a full day of outdoor activities at Skern lodge or a day at a local forest school. Ideally, we'd like to take a selection of children across the years for a day during the next school year. We'd hope to be able to catch up those children who are struggling to get back into school after covid, those who have encountered some significant difficulties and also to acknowledge those children who work really hard but may never be the high achievers but need to be celebrated and encouraged. Any extra money that we raise will help fund the continuing role of the ICE worker....who just happens to be HELEN COOK!
We are two ladies of, well some might say in their middle age but we've been training really hard to be able to complete this challenge and if you have managed to read all of this blurb, thank you so much!
