Story
5 years ago, Mark's dad died from Dementia. When he was diagnosed, his family’s life changed forever. Watching his hero deteriorate over a relatively short time was devastating and although it was hard at the time, the fact that we lost him in a year now feels like a blessing as he didn’t suffer for an extended period of time.
Around 2 years ago, Lucy and Alex's dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia. In his early 60s at the time, this was on the eve of his retirement when he should have been able to enjoy the fruits of his labour from all those working years. Instead, our family's life has changed forever, and seeing him become a different person is difficult, but we are grateful for the time we can spend with him and love seeing his joy from new hobbies and interests.
So many others also go through this, so to help support the Alzheimer’s Society and help in every way we can, we will be completing a 42km (26mile) trek in the Peak District on 13 August in one massive 10 hour hit to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
