Story
On 14th March 2021, I will be running a half marathon (13.1 miles) to raise money as part of the Greshams community for a fantastic local charity called The Treehouse Community Cafe in Holt! Until the first lockdown, I had only ever run relatively short distances but having to home school last year spurred me on to run more regularly to clear my head, keep calm and de-stress! So this has been a brilliant challenge for me to train for. I have also been lucky enough to spend lots of time running along the beautiful North Norfolk coast paths in preparation and I’m excited to tick it off my bucket list! The original aim was to run as a big group but due to the current situation I am now plotting my own route from home towards the North Norfolk coast probably ending up at Stiffkey Stores for a much needed hot chocolate! The Treehouse Cafe was opened last year and has a community fridge, zero waste café, outdoor area with a vegetable garden and runs workshops such as children's yoga and music groups. This community centre is vital to the area as it provides a friendly and welcoming environment that aims to support people affected by poverty and deprivation in Holt. This charity particularly helps anyone who needs it from new mums, to vulnerable elderly people and children with speech difficulties. The Greshams fundraising goal of £6000 will go towards building a low-level treehouse with disabled access and a sensory garden. A group of Greshams students visited the Treehouse Community centre in October to help start the development of the sensory garden where the treehouse will be situated.
