Iconic Smardale Gill Viaduct in Cumbria's Upper Eden Valley is at risk. The stone work is severely damaged by water and needs urgent repair. Please help us Save Smardale Gill Viaduct by accepting the #14Peaksfor14Arches challenge.

Story

Eden Viaducts needs to raise around £100,000 to Save Smardale Gill Viaduct. I have accepted the #14Peaksfor14Arches challenge, covering 90 miles (for the 90 feet of the viaduct) whilst doing so. The challenge takes in (virtually or actually) some of the most popular fells surrounding Smardale Gill Viaduct. I will be climbing the equivalent of the 14 fells covering 90 miles in 14 stages Please sponsor me. Smardale Gill Viaduct curves dramatically above Scandal Beck in the wild landscape of south-east Cumbria. It towers 90 feet above the valley and its 14 30-foot arches span 553 feet across the remote valley. Smardale Gill Viaduct needs substantial renovation. The deck needs to be waterproofed with new drainage to prevent further deterioration.
