Story
In October 2011 our son Aaron woke up urinating blood. After various tests he was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Fast forward to summer 2012 and our family was dealt another blow when we discovered Leo and Gracie also had the disease. Scans also found Gracie has a duplex kidney and age 2 she started taking daily medication. Whilst undergoing tests for high blood pressure, doctors also found she has a hole in her heart which will need fixing. As a parent, one of the most difficult things to hear when you ask 'What can I do make my child better? is: 'There is nothing you can do'. There is no treatment or cure and the disease won't ever go away. The ultimate cure is a kidney transplant. So my best mate has agreed we will run the Great North Run to raise money for Kidney Research who support scientists in researching kidney disease and manging the implications of kidney disease.
Until my children were diagnosed I was quite ignorant of kidney disease but I have met many people affected, not only by PKDbut also kidney cancer, kidney reflux and scarring and CKD.
This is not a glamorous subject, but my friend Rachel will inject some glamour into a bad situation ha ha ha!!!!!!
