Story
In a moment of what can only be described as utter madness I decided to enter an ultra-marathon (100km) in September. It's for a cause very close to my heart so whilst I'm slightly terrified at the prospect I promise I'm going to give it my all.
My lovely Dad was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in 2016. He literally deteriorated in a matter of days which we now know was due to him trying to walk around with a fractured spine which was caused by the cancer spreading to his bones.
Although Dad can't be cured, he has taken it all in his stride and instead of wallowing, he works closely with PCR to raise awareness in the hope that more people will catch the disease in time to be cured - he even made a cheeky appearance in their advertising campaign!
The way Dad has bounced back from such a devastating diagnosis and has focused on living each day to its fullest for his family is truly inspirational so I had no option but to go big. I figured if Dad can walk around with a fractured spine for 2 weeks then I've got no excuse not to finish - no matter how much it might hurt!
Prostate cancer is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 11,500 men die from the disease every year. PCR are making important gains into both improving and prolonging the lives of men (like Dad) with advanced prostate cancer and will hopefully one day find a cure.
I know money is tight so there's honestly no pressure at all to donate as long as you promise to make the men in your lives have regular check-ups!
Much Love
Lucy
