A group of good mates (aka 'Team Rog!') are taking part in The Big Walk 2018, a walking challenge on 22 June – a 26.2 marathon distance Peak District walk starting in Lodge Moor on the edge of Sheffield, heading out to the Peak District and ending on the University campus. 

Why are we doing this?  

We are raising funds towards the University’s £2 million fundraising campaign for the Sheffield Scanner - a ground-breaking MRI-PET scanner facility, and the first of its kind in Yorkshire. The Sheffield Scanner will represent the next leap forward in medical and imaging research and have a crucial role for research and patients in many areas of medicine, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, heart disease, diabetes and stroke.  

At the very heart of our reason for doing this is Matt and Lucy's amazing Dad, Rog, who sadly passed away in January this year following a 2 year struggle after a big stroke in December 2015...he would be thrilled that we are helping towards this great cause and if this scanner can help to prevent/ treat future strokes or other illnesses then every step is worth it!
