Lucy's Marathon for Mind, 10 January 2021
West Kent Mind are facing the most momentous challenge in our history. Many local people desperately need to access mental health support and, more than ever, we want to continue to provide our services and help as many people as possible.

Story

So I have decided to run a marathon for the charity Mind, which helps to support those suffering with a mental health problem, as well as helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

This charity is very close to my heart, as the mental health crisis is something I am extremely passionate about. When I went through a time where I was struggling myself, Mind offered me support,  along with a lot of other teenagers in a similar position. Therefore, I want to raise money so that more people who would benefit from support like I did, are able to receive this help.

I was going to wait until organised events are on again. However, I think that the mental health crisis is more prevalent than ever. And with many big fundraising events cancelled, charities will be losing a lot of money, despite the fact that a lot of them probably need it most at the moment. Therefore, I will just be completing the marathon in Cardiff (where I am at univeristy), and uploading pictures of strava.

Finally, I just want to say, I am honestly so proud of all the people in my life (and everyone else) who struggle with mental health day in and day out, but continue to fight! I do not want to lose any of you, or be close to losing any of you again, so this marathon is for all you:)
Please remember to check in with your friends, families and even strangers. Remember you do not know what is going on behind closed doors, so always be kind and  try to look after yourselves and your mind. It is so so important.

(I will make another post when I have decided dates as this depends on exams and when I am at university etc - will probably be around April/May time).
