On May 14th I will be running my last marathon in Memory of 2 great people taken too soon, in the hope of raising money for 2 charities close to The Mawson’s hearts. 

On October 20th 2015 Rita O‘Connor passed away after a short battle with Motor Neurons Disease. Rita was a beloved wife to Sean  and adored mum of Siobhan, a cherished grandma, sister and auntie and a dear friend to many. She had so much more to give but was sadly taken too soon by this devastating disease. 

MND is a life shortening disease with no cure, it effects nerves found in the brain and spinal cord and gradually stops messages reaching the muscles, causing them to weaken and waste. It can effect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.  Symptoms progress at varying speeds making the course of the disease very difficult to predict. 

The MND association provide care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.  Support for family members at a time like this is essential so their campaign to support and raise awareness not just for the individual living with it but for their families and carers is crucial. 

The MND association relies on donations to fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatment and brings them closer to a cure. Every penny raised will make a difference to people with MND and their families.

As many close to Siobhan will know, her father in law Tony passed away on 12th July 2022 of a sudden heart attack in his sleep. It therefore felt fitting that the money raised be divided between 2 charities close to The Mawson’s hearts. You can read Tony’s story and donate to the British heart foundation by going to the just giving home page and searching Lucy Judge.  You can then chose to donate to either charity or divide your chosen amount between the 2.
